“So long as the people of the United States form one nation, the name of Alexander Hamilton will be held in high and lasting honor.”

This biography presents the influence Hamilton had over the great historical advances of the nation. He was a great master at all he did, weakness and incompetency were not traits found in Hamilton.

Born in the Caribbean to a Scottish father and French Huguenot mother, Alexander Hamilton became one of the founding fathers of the United States of America.

When the American Revolution began, Hamilton threw himself into the cause and joined the volunteer corps to gain practical military experience.

As commander of the artillery company, Hamilton showed great dedication. He introduced novel disciplines and through the excellence of his army he was noticed by the Rhode Island General, Greene. In 1777, at the tender age of twenty, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.

Hamilton’s military talent did not go unnoticed, and his responsibilities continued to rise. He was particularly successful at making powerful friends.

Following the Revolution, law became Hamilton’s next interest. Robert Morris appreciated Hamilton’s talented mind and abilities, and appointed Hamilton as Continental Receiver of Taxes for New York. By the time Hamilton entered Congress, it was falling far behind its predecessors. But, young and enthusiastic, Hamilton threw himself into the struggles. When his term expired in 1783, Hamilton’s endeavours had born no fruit. His ideas had been brought forth at a time when the country was not ready.

As public affairs deteriorated even further, Hamilton was drawn into the formation of the constitution.

Alexander Hamilton is a fascinating biography of the soldier, politician and founding father who famously died in a duel.

Henry Cabot Lodge (May 1850 – November 1924) was a Senator and historian. Lodge travelled through Europe before being one of the first to earn a PhD in History from Harvard. He was also a long-term friend of Theodore Roosevelt. Lodge played an active role in foreign policy and held a series of roles in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Great work (pro-Hamilton) by a distinguished author. Perhaps not as the first book to be read on Alexander Hamilton but a very nice, concise biography for readers with some familiarity of this impressive man and his times.

A most excellent account of one of our most highly regarded founding fathers. As a student of the founding fathers history I found this informative and helpful . The information on Hamilton's background is extensive. It shows a true patriot who wanted to contribute and did so by hard work and American ingenuity A well done accounting of Hamilton and his humble beginnings.
More interesting for an examination of how the perception of Hamilton has changed over time than as a biography (the book is over 100 years old). The author was the Senator who destroyed President Wilson's dream of a League of Nations, leaving him a broken man
Of all the Founding Fathers, nobody came from farther down on the social-economic ladder than Hamilton. Hamilton's vision of America was prescient, it took 80 some years and a Civil War to undo Jefferson's vision of America.
Great work (pro-Hamilton) by a distinguished author. Perhaps not as the first book to be read on Alexander Hamilton but a very nice, concise biography for readers with some familiarity of this impressive man and his times.
